New Delhi: Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembele was named FIFA men’s player of the year while Aitana Bonmati won the women’s award for the third consecutive
year.
France forward Deembele helped Paris St Germain to their maiden Champions League triumph in a 5-0 rout of Inter Milan in the final.
The 28-year-old scored 35 goals last season across all competitions, including 21 in French Ligue 1 to become its top scorer.
He was instrumental in PSG winning three trophies and reaching the inaugural Club World Cup’s final, winning the Ballon d’Or in September.
“I want to thank all my teammates, it just shows that hard work pays off. It’s been a fantastic year for me, both individually and collectively. I hope to come back here again next year,” Dembele said, as he collected his award in Doha on Tuesday, a day before PSG face Flamengo in Intercontinental Cup final.

Spain midfielder Bonmati was again on the podium, having led Barcelona to a domestic treble and reaching the Champions League final, while being named the European top tier club competition’s player of the season.
She also was also player of the tournament as Spain lost to England on penalties in the Euro 2025 final.
“Thank you to the players, coaches and fans who have voted for me to win this award,” the 27-year-old, who is currently recuperating from an operation on a fractured fibula, said.
PSG coach Luis Enrique was adjudged the best men’s coach while Sarina Wiegman got the corresponding women’s award for the fifth time after mentoring England’s successful Euro title defence.
Italy international Gianluigi Donnarumma, who was part of PSG’s treble winning team before switching to Manchester City, was handed the best men’s keeper award.
England and Chelsea’s Hannah Hampton was chosen as the best women’s goalkeeper.
Mexico’s Lizbeth Ovalle got the FIFA Marta Award for the best goal in women’s football while the Puskas Award for the best men’s goal was handed over to Santiago Montiel.
