The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the food business licences of four Domino’s Pizza outlets after officials detected multiple
violations during a statewide food safety inspection drive.
The action followed inspections conducted on August 11 at outlets operated by major food chains. The FDA examined 104 establishments belonging to brands such as Domino’s Pizza, KFC, Pizza Hut, McDonald’s, Subway, Burger King, Starbucks and Monginis. Officials stopped operations at two establishments, issued 95 improvement notices and suspended five food business licences.
Three of the affected Domino’s outlets are in Mumbai, while the fourth is located in Satara.
The Domino’s outlet in Vile Parle West, operated by Jubilant FoodWorks Ltd, was found to have several shortcomings. These included deficiencies in food storage, pest control, potable water testing and hygiene facilities.
The FDA also directed the outlet to improve temperature monitoring, separate food and non-food materials, repair parts of the kitchen and strengthen measures against rodents and other pests.
The Borivali West outlet recorded a compliance score of 54%. Inspectors raised concerns over storage, hygiene, temperature monitoring and pest control. The outlet was told to keep raw and cooked food, as well as vegetarian and non-vegetarian items, properly separated.
The Ghatkopar West outlet at R-City Mall also had its licence suspended after officials reported inadequate sanitation arrangements, pest infestation and a lack of proper cleaning schedules.
The Domino’s outlet in Satara recorded a compliance score of just 47%. The FDA identified shortcomings involving infrastructure, equipment, cleanliness and pest control.
The outlet was instructed to improve storage arrangements, introduce suitable racks for raw materials and conduct laboratory testing of food products while maintaining the required records.
The latest action comes amid a wider food safety enforcement campaign in Maharashtra. The FDA recently suspended the licence of a Blinkit facility in Malad West after finding cockroaches, improper food storage, expired products and inadequate pest-control measures.
Between May 25 and July 31, the department inspected 3,137 food establishments across Mumbai. It issued 764 improvement notices and suspended 165 licences, while food products weighing 28.66 lakh kg and valued at Rs 55.72 crore were seized or destroyed.
