New Delhi: Hours after Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi accused the BJP of dividing the Shiv Sena, then NCP and TMC, the saffron party
hit back at the Congress leader, saying that he did not know the history of his own party. Addressing a press conference, BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said that both the TMC and NCP broke away from the Congress itself.
“Rahul Gandhi, regarding whom the prevailing public perception is that he knows nothing about the country, its culture, or its religion, has made a remarkable tweet today. It appears he knows nothing about his own party either,” Trivedi said.
He added, “In his efforts to blame the BJP, he failed to realise which parties he was talking about. While mentioning three parties, he alleged that the BJP was ‘finishing them off. He failed to realise that the full form of NCP is the Nationalist Congress Party, which originated from the Congress. The name Trinamool Congress (TMC) also includes Congress. Sharad Pawar broke away from the Congress in 1999 to form the NCP, while Mamata Banerjee left the Congress in 1997 to form the TMC”.
“There are those who read out things that aren’t written or prepared; Rahul Gandhi is one such leader. He is the kind of leader who does not read what he is actually saying. He failed to realize that, ultimately, the blame falls back on the Congress itself,” Trivedi said further in the press conference.

Earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi took to X following controversy over party symbol between two factions of the TMC, saying, “First Shiv Sena, then NCP, and now Trinamool Congress. Every time, the same pattern—BJP and the Election Commission join forces to split a party. Then its election symbol is snatched away. When an entire party can be stolen, it’s hardly surprising that the votes of millions of Indians can be stolen too. Vote theft. Government theft. Now party theft—these have become symbols of our democratic decline. The ECI’s constitutional responsibility is to protect the mandate—but instead, it’s aiding those very forces that overturn the people’s verdict. This fight isn’t just Mamata Banerjee’s. It’s the fight of every political party, every voter who wants free and fair elections.
