New Delhi: Two mild tremors struck parts of Maharashtra’s Hingoli district within a gap of around two hours on Saturday morning, causing concern among
residents. Officials said there were no reports of casualties or damage to property.
The first tremor, measuring 3.3 magnitude, was recorded at around 7.46 am, according to the district disaster management cell. Its epicentre was located near Gadhala village in Aundha Nagnath tehsil, at a depth of around 7 km.
The tremor was accompanied by a rumbling sound, which was heard by residents in some villages. People briefly stepped out of their homes after feeling the movement.
Stronger tremor recorded two hours later
Around two hours after the first tremor, a stronger jolt measuring 4.5 magnitude was felt across several parts of the district, officials said.
Residents of Pimpaldari and nearby areas in Aundha Nagnath tehsil reported hearing a rumbling sound that continued for a few minutes before the second tremor. The incident led to panic in some areas, although there was no immediate report of injuries or structural damage.
The latest activity comes days after residents of Pangra Shinde village, located in the adjoining area, reported a similar rumbling sound on October 1.
Hingoli has recorded seismic activity for years
The region has experienced intermittent seismic activity over the past six years. Earlier this year, tremors measuring 4.6 and 3.5 magnitude were recorded on July 9 and July 11 respectively.
The July tremors reportedly caused cracks in some houses in the affected areas, raising concerns among local residents.
Following Saturday’s tremors, the district administration urged people to remain alert but avoid panic. Officials are monitoring the situation and have advised residents to follow safety instructions if further tremors are felt.
The repeated seismic activity has kept people in villages around Aundha Nagnath and neighbouring areas cautious, particularly after the stronger tremors recorded earlier this year.
