New Delhi: Assam is reeling under flood and the situation worsened, with 6 more deaths being reported in the last 24 hours. According to the data available
with the State Disaster Management Authority, over 1.6 lakh people in 14 districts of the state have been impacted by the deluge so far. The death toll in this year’s floods in the state has risen to 95.
The Disaster Management Authority said that over 1.22 lakh people are impacted by the floods in just 5 districts. As of Wednesday, 2 people drowned in floodwaters in Sivasagar and Biswanath districts. Apart from these 2 deaths, 1 death each was reported from Golaghat and Morigaon. These fresh deaths took the toll to 95, reported PTI.
Districts affected by floods
The districts affected by this year’s floods in Assam are, Biswanath, Charaideo, Darrang, Dhemaji, Golaghat, Jorhat, Kamrup Metropolitan, Karbi Anglong, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, Tinsukia and Udalguri said the Disaster Management Authority.The worst affected district was Sivasagar, where nearly 57,000 people have been impacted by the floods.
Sivasagar was followed by Golaghat, where 34,000 were impacted and Jorhat, where 25,000 people have had to bear the flood fury.
The district administration has put up 105 relief camps across 6 districts in the state. As of now, these relief camps have 44,523 people who have been impacted by floodwaters. In the last 24 hours, flood victims had been provided with 528.44 quintals of rice, 126.72 quintals of dal, 73.21 quintals of salt and 2,519.64 litres of mustard oil by the district administration.
According to the Disaster Management Authority, 563 villages have been impacted by the flood in the state. They added that 16,951.76 hectares of crop area were damaged due to rains and floods. Apart from crops, the floods have also damaged roads, bridges and other infrastructure in the state.
Over 35,000 domestic animals and poultry have been impacted in this year’s floods and 8,529 have been confirmed dead as they were washed away by the floodwaters.
On Wednesday, the flood situation worsened, as more deaths were reported and waters entered more fields, damaging crops.
