West Bengal assembly Election 2026: The all-important Assembly election in the state will take place in two phase on April 23 and April 29. The people
in the state will poll votes on those dates to elect 294 members of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly. The votes will be counted and the results will be declared on May 4.
Can someone vote without Voter ID?
It is important for voters to know about several aspects of an election, and one of them is how to search
for their details by name and EPIC number in the online voters’ list. For example: Can someone still vote if the person loses voter ID card? Also, which alternative identity documents are accepted at polling stations? Notably, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has ensured that citizens can even if their Voter ID card is lost or misplaced. However, their names have to be there on the official voters’ list of their constituency.
If the name of a voter appears in the electoral roll, the as per the ECI, the person can still vote by showing an approved identity document. The identity of the voter will be verified by the polling officer using the document after which the person can vote. Also, the voters have to carry the original ID proof, not photocopies or digital screenshots of documents.

The documents approved by the ECI as an alternate of Voter ID card Election includes
- Aadhaar Card
- Passport
- PAN Card
- Driving License
Other documents which can be used
- MNREGA Job Card
- Bank or Post Office passbook with photo
- Pension documents with photograph
- Service identity cards issued by the central or State government or PSUs
- Health insurance smart card issued by the Ministry of Labour
- Smart card issued under the National Population Register (NPR)
- Official identity cards issued to MPs, MLAs or MLCs
- Digital voter ID (e-EPIC) downloaded online.
