New Delhi: Vishwakarma Puja will be celebrated on September 16, 2026. The festival celebrates Lord Vishwakarma, who is revered in Hindu traditions as the
divine architect and craftsman of the gods. The occasion is widely celebrated in West Bengal, Assam, Bihar, Tripura, Odisha, and Jharkhand.

Vishwakarma Puja 2026 date and time
Vishwakarma Puja is celebrated on Kanya Sankranti. Kanya Sankranti is when the Sun enters Kanya Rashi or Virgo, according to the Hindu Panchang. This year, Kanya Sankranti will take place around 7:58 am on September 17. The punya kaal for New Delhi is said to be around 7:58 am to 2:31 pm. Vishwakarma Puja is associated with the solar transition into Kanya Rashi, unlike many Hindu festivals that depend on a lunar Tithi.
The auspicious Maha Punya Kaal is between 7:58 am and 10:01 am. Devotees who wish to perform Vishwakarma Puja should check the timings after the Sankranti moment. According to the Hindu Panchang, Bhadrapada Shukla Paksha day is on September 17, while Shashthi Tithi will be around 10:47 am, after which Saptami begins.
Vishwakarma Puja significance
Lord Vishwakarma is regarded as the divine architect and craftsman in Hindu traditions. Stories associated with him describe his role in creating some of the most remarkable cities, palaces and weapons mentioned in Hindu scriptures. He is traditionally believed to have built Dwarka for Lord Krishna, Indraprastha for the Pandavas, Sudamapuri for Sudama Ji and the golden Lanka, besides creating Swargaloka for the gods.
He is also associated with the creation of divine weapons. These include Lord Vishnu’s Sudarshan Chakra, Lord Shiva’s Trishula and the spear of Lord Kartikeya.
