Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Monday marked 100 days of his government, highlighting welfare schemes, farmer support and investment
commitments announced since he took office. The state government presented the report under the theme “100 Days of Governance – A Government for Generations”.
The government’s 100-day pitch covers women’s safety, education, jobs, farming, housing and public services. Vijay also said the state had announced an extra ₹953.06 crore in support for farmers despite financial constraints, according to PTI. Separately, the government has highlighted investment commitments crossing ₹1 lakh crore during the period.
Gold schemes, laptops and breakfast expansion
Among the headline welfare measures is the Thaaimaaman Thanga Mothiram Scheme, under which newborns delivered in government hospitals are set to receive a 1-gram gold ring. The government has allocated ₹560 crore for it.
The Annan’s Seer Scheme carries an allocation of ₹812 crore and provides eligible women with an 8-gram gold coin and silk saree for marriage.
The state has also earmarked ₹2,000 crore for the Vettri Laptop Scheme for college students. The expanded Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Breakfast Scheme is expected to cover another 15.14 lakh students in Classes 6 to 8 across 15,414 schools.
Farmers, jobs and investment take centre stage
The CMO said the government announced a ₹6,000 crore crop loan waiver. Incentives include ₹4,000 per tonne for sugarcane and ₹2,750 per quintal for paddy.
The Vettri Skill Training Scheme has reportedly covered 12 lakh students and 1 lakh youth.
Investment remains another major talking point. The government says the Vettri Tamil Nadu Investment Conclave helped take investment commitments beyond ₹1 lakh crore. The Indian Express earlier reported that the conclave itself saw 97 MoUs worth ₹67,542 crore, with proposals linked to more than one lakh jobs.
Other measures highlighted in the 100-day report include 200 units of free electricity for eligible domestic users, 150 days of guaranteed employment under Vettri 150 and the closure of 717 liquor shops near schools, temples and bus stands.
