New Delhi: The Lokayukta police on Wednesday trapped a police inspector attached to the K.P. Agrahara police station in Bengaluru for allegedly accepting
a bribe of Rs 4 lakh in connection with a chit fund-related cheating case.
The accused, inspector Govindaraju, is alleged to have demanded money from a complainant, threatening to falsely implicate him in a chit fund cheating case if the bribe was not paid. Acting on the complaint, officials of the Karnataka Lokayukta laid a trap and allegedly caught the officer red-handed while accepting the cash near the CAR Ground at Sirsi Circle. He has been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act and taken into custody. Further investigation is under way to check if other officials were involved.

Inspector trapped during bribe exchange
Lokayukta officials said the operation was carried out after the complainant approached them with evidence of the demand. The arrest was made at the spot where the money was allegedly handed over, strengthening the prosecution’s case.
Former excise officer sentenced in DA case
In a separate case, the 77th Additional City Civil and Sessions Court, Bengaluru sentenced S. Srinivasa Murthy, former Deputy Commissioner of Excise in Chickballapur district, to three years of simple imprisonment in a disproportionate assets case. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1,34,18,645, with an additional one year of simple imprisonment in default of payment.
According to Lokayukta police, Murthy was found to be in possession of assets far exceeding his known sources of income during the check period from October 1978 to September 2014. A raid conducted in 2014 had revealed illegal assets worth Rs 1.22 crore. Pronouncing the verdict, judge Prakash Nayak held the former official guilty after a full-fledged trial.
Fresh DA searches uncover assets worth over Rs 26 crore
Meanwhile, Karnataka Lokayukta police on Thursday conducted simultaneous searches at more than five locations linked to Tejas Kumar N, an Assistant Commissioner recently transferred to the Shivamogga Forest Department as manager and yet to report for duty.
Officials said the searches indicated that the officer had allegedly amassed assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. The total value of assets detected was pegged at Rs 26,55,66,250.
Details of properties seized
The immovable assets include four sites, eight houses and 14 acres of agricultural land, collectively valued at Rs 25,63,16,250. Movable assets seized during the operation include Rs 50,000 in cash and vehicles worth Rs 92 lakh.
A disproportionate assets case has been registered at the Lokayukta Police Station, Bengaluru city. Further investigation is under way to trace the source of the assets and identify any benami holdings.
