New Delhi: Veteran singer Asha Bhosale passed away in Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital on Sunday aged 92. She had been admitted to hospital following a chest
infection. On Saturday, Bhosle’s granddaughter, Zanai Bhosle took to social media to confirm her admission to hospital, saying that the legendary singer was admitted to the hospital after suffering a chest infection and exhaustion.
An illustrious career
Maharashtra Cultural Minister Ashish Shelar confirmed the death of the veteran singer, while speaking to media outside the Breach Candy Hospital. Doctor Prateet Samdani was also present at the press briefing. He confirmed that the singer passed away around half an hour ago. Anand Bhosle, son of the veteran singer said, “My mother passed away today. People can pay their last respects to her at 11 am tomorrow at Casa Grande, Lower Parel, where she lived.”
Asha Bhosle’s name is taken with great respect in the Indian film and music industry. She had been a part of the music industry for the last eight decades and gained immense popularity and success, just like her elder sister Lata Mangeshkar.
During this period, she recorded more than 12000 songs, which is considered a record. As part of this her name was also recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records. Asha Bhosle started singing at the age of 10. Her first song was for the 1943 Marathi film ‘Majha Bal’. The lyrics of the song were “Chala Chala Nav Bala”. In this film, Lata Mangeshkar worked not only as a singer but also as an actress.
Asha Bhosle made her Bollywood debut in 1948 with the film ‘Chunariya’. “Sawan Aaya” was her first Hindi song. In 1949, she sang her first solo song in the film ‘Raat Ki Rani’. After the massive success of the songs of the 1953 film ‘Parineeta’, she started getting real recognition, never looking back as she roared to an illustrious career.
Even at the age of 92, Asha Bhosle was active in the field of music. At the age of 91, she recorded the song “Saiyan Bina”, in which her granddaughter Zanai Bhosle was also involved. The song has received more than 1.5 million views on YouTube.
