New Delhi: Days after Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and students announced the end of their protests at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, an internal report filed
by the Delhi Police suggested that hundreds of protesters present at the site had criminal antecedents. Among them were those accused of serious offences like murder, robbery, rape, kidnapping, and crimes.
According to a report by India Today, the police examined more than 100 CCTV cameras of the protests. They identified a total of 2,873 individuals present during the protest at around Jantar Mantar when protests were going on.
989 participants had history of heinous cries
The report said that 989 people present at the protest site had a history of heinous crimes. Among them 101 had been booked for murders, 62 in attempt to murder cases, 284 in dacoity-related cases, 61 in rape cases, six under child abuse, 25 in molestation cases, among others. It also said that several of them were habitual offenders.
Also, among 101 persons linked to murders, 42 of them have been found involved in two or more criminal cases. 12 others had 10 criminal cases registered against them . Of the 62 others, 25 had several criminal cases filed against them. Out of those involved in robbery 155 out of 284 had at least two criminal cases against them. Of them 31 others had 10 or more cases. According to the Delhi Police, repeat offenders have also been booked under the Arms Act, molestation, and other crimes, India Today added, further quoting a Delhi Police internal report.
Police internal report claims of warning protesters several times
The police further claimed to have warned the protesters several times to remain within designated protest sites, but section of crown advanced towards Parliament. It also claimed that some media personnel were heckled and physically harassed. They said that forces were used only after repeated warnings. It added that lathi-charge and controlled use of tear gas were authorised to be used against those who breached barricades or were found attacking personnel.
