New Delhi: A delegation of INDIA Bloc leaders on Friday met President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhawan and handed her a memorandum alleging vote
theft. The ten-member delegation that met the President included Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, MAITC chief Mamata Banerjee among others.
Speaking to reporters after meeting the President, the delegation said that the President has asked for the evidence of vote theft as alleged by the Opposition leaders, which would be delivered to her. The leaders further said that the President assured them of looking into the allegation.
‘Entire nation knows votes are being stolen’
“We met the President today. I was somewhat surprised because when we spoke to her about vote theft and election rigging, she did not deny it. She did not say that elections are not being rigged. Instead, she asked us to present the evidence to her. We are ready and happy to take all the evidence we have gathered to the President,” Rahul Gandhi said.
He added, “The entire nation knows that votes are being stolen in the country. PM Narendra Modi is the architect of this, while Amit Shah and CEC Gyanesh Kumar are the implementers. The President said she would consider the matter and take action. I want to thank her from the bottom of my heart.”
INDIA bloc MPs blocked at Vijay Chowk
In the evening, INDIA bloc MPs marched from Parliament House to Vijay Chowk, where they were stopped by the police. Earlier, the INDIA bloc MPs met at the Central Hall of the Parliament and discussed on the strategy to take forward their plan for agitation on SIR rollout and on Gyanesh Kumar’s ouster. In recent time, the Opposition has increased its protests against the government after a report by The Indian Express said that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi objected at least 14 times over the last 10 months on decisions related to the SIR rollout.
