New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki India has launched the WagonR Flex Fuel at ₹7.24 lakh, ex-showroom, making it the first flex-fuel car to go on sale in India.
The model has been listed in a single ZXI+ MT FFV variant and sits around ₹85,000 above the regular WagonR petrol ZXI+ MT, priced at ₹6.39 lakh.
The launch gives India’s mass-market car space a new talking point at a time when ethanol blending is becoming a bigger part of the fuel debate. For buyers, the big question is: what changes in daily driving? For enthusiasts, the answer sits under the bonnet, not just on the badge.
What makes the WagonR Flex Fuel different?
The WagonR Flex Fuel has been engineered to run on ethanol-petrol blends from E20 to E100. Under current Indian rules, the car is homologated with E85 fuel, which means 85 per cent ethanol and 15 per cent petrol.
It uses the same K12N 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine seen on the standard WagonR. Output stays unchanged at 90.9 PS and 113.7 Nm. The engine is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. For now, there is no AMT option.
The main change is in the fuel system and engine control setup. Maruti Suzuki says the car gets advanced ECU calibration to adjust to different ethanol levels. In plain English, the car can understand the blend in the tank and tune itself for that fuel mix.
Features, safety and business angle
Since it is based on the ZXI+ trim, the WagonR Flex Fuel gets halogen headlamps, fog lamps, ORVMs with turn indicators, body-coloured bumpers and body-coloured door handles. Inside, it gets a 7-inch touchscreen, multi-function steering wheel, AC, power windows and 60:40 split rear seats.
Safety kit includes six airbags, electronic stability control, ABS with EBD and hill hold. Six airbags are standard across the WagonR range.
The move expands Maruti Suzuki’s fuel technology basket. The company now has electric, hybrid, petrol, CNG and flex-fuel models in its portfolio.
The WagonR itself gives the launch more weight. It recorded 1.80 lakh units in FY26 and was India’s best-selling car for four straight years from FY22 to FY25. Putting flex fuel into a high-volume nameplate makes this more than a lab experiment.
