Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) officials carried out inspections at milk booths and other distribution centres across Andhra Pradesh
on Tuesday.
The inspections came after five people died in Rajamahendravaram due to milk adulteration and others were hospitalised.
Raids on loose milk sale points, collection and storage points:
Speaking to Tv9 Telugu, officials of food safety and animal husbandry department said that they raided six milk booths in Vijayawada.
“We conducted raids on those who sell loose milk in Krishna Lanka Center, Panta Kalava Road, Currency Nagar, Prasadampadu areas. We raided loose milk sale points, collection and storage points and collected samples. We are conducting raids on the orders of Food Safety Commissioner and Collector.”
AP State Joint Food Controller Purnachandar Rao told the media that multiple teams inspected loose sale milk points, storage points across the state. “Rapid response teams collected milk samples to be sent to food laboratories in Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam and others,” he said.
Food Safety Officials said that plastic and aluminium containers should not be used to store milk and only stainless steel containers should be used.
Officials added that milk traders should take all steps for proper maintenance of collection and storage points. Those who resort to adulteration of milk are liable for imprisonment.
