New Delhi:Suzuki has unveiled the e Sky as the first-ever EV that follows the Japanese ultra-compact ‘kei car’ rules. The EV is set to launch in Japan sometime
between September and November and has been previewed by the Vision e Sky concept showcased at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show.
The production-spec model comes with the same design inspiration as the concept that had been shown before.
Suzuki e Sky exterior and interior
The Suzuki e Sky has a tall, boxy design intended to maximise interior space without a big road presence. At the front, it has square projector LED headlamps, LED daytime running lights and halogen indicators. Unlike the Vision e Sky concept, which had a full-width LED light bar, the production-spec model has a black textured panel hosting a camera module.
The side profile retains the upright and practical stance, with two doors on either side and pronounced wheel arches. Suzuki hasn’t yet disclosed the alloy wheel size. At the back, the electric hatchback comes with wraparound LED tail-lamps, halogen indicators and reverse lights, along with a rear wiper and washer. A roof spoiler and another camera positioned close to the tailgate handle complete the rear design.
e Vision interior
The e Sky has a functional cabin set with a large central touchscreen, a digital instrument cluster and a three-spoke steering wheel featuring physical controls. The dashboard integrates cupholders and slim air-conditioning controls, including a dedicated temperature scroll function. To give it enough space around the centre console, the drive selector is placed on the dashboard.
The centre console provides additional storage and charging ports, while the seats come with integrated headrests and fabric upholstery. Suzuki is yet to reveal the complete equipment list, although the car which was revealed features automatic climate control, push-button start/stop and vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality.
Suzuki e Sky expected battery and range
Suzuki has kept the production e Sky’s powertrain specifications under wraps. However, reports indicate that it might get a front-mounted electric motor making around 64hp. That keeps it within Japan’s kei-car power rules. The Vision e Sky concept had a claimed driving range of above 270km, while the production model is reportedly being targeted at about 310km.
In India, Maruti Suzuki is also working on an affordable electric hatchback codenamed Y2V. The e Sky’s placements do align with that project. That raises a possible launch of the e Vision in the future. If introduced here, it would likely compete with the MG Comet EV.
