New Delhi:Triumph has released a teaser confirming the arrival of four new motorcycles on October 6. Among all the models, the Bonneville 400 has garnered
the most interest. It is a modern classic that has been spotted undergoing testing on multiple occasions in recent months. The motorcycle will become the newest addition to Triumph’s growing 400cc family.
Based on the test motorcycles spotted so far, the Bonneville 400 will have a distinctly different appearance and mechanical setup. It will stand apart from the other models in Triumph’s Bajaj-built 400cc range.
While the Speed 400, Scrambler 400 X, Thruxton 400 and Tracker 400 come with USD front forks and a rear monoshock, the Bonneville 400 is likely to feature conventional telescopic forks with gaiters and twin rear shock absorbers. The motorcycle also appears to use a newly developed chassis and swingarm.

Its styling takes inspiration from the larger Bonneville T100 and T120. The test bikes come with a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, flowing mudguards, a flat bench-style seat and a round headlamp. A peashooter-style exhaust further reinforces the traditional Bonneville-inspired design.
Power for the India-spec is expected to come from the 349cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine. Given the Bonneville 400’s relaxed, classic character, the motor is likely to receive a milder tune similar to the Speed T4, which produces 29hp and 31Nm.
The Bonneville 400 will also mark Triumph and Bajaj’s entry into the more traditional retro roadster category. Once launched, it will go up against motorcycles such as the updated Honda CB350 range, along with Royal Enfield’s Classic 350 and Bullet 350.
Triumph entered India in 2013 with a premium range that included motorcycles such as the Bonneville T100/T120, Thruxton, Tiger 800, Rocket III and Speed Triple. Triumph now has the Speed 400, Speed T4, Scrambler 400 X, Scrambler 400 XC, Thruxton 400 and Tracker 400 in its small-capacity portfolio. Triumph launched the updated Bonneville T120, Bobber and Speedmaster in India in May, while the Street Triple 765 was also introduced this year.
