Dimapur, Nagaland: Dimapur Police have arrested a 65-year-old man after he allegedly drove his vehicle onto railway tracks near Dimapur railway station,
causing a serious safety concern late on Tuesday night.
According to a press release issued by the Dimapur Police PRO, the incident occurred on December 16, 2025, at around 11:35 pm. A Mahindra Thar bearing registration number NL-01 CA 8181 reportedly entered the railway tracks illegally and became stuck on Line No 1 near the old flyover area on the Burma Camp side of the station.

The vehicle was being driven by Thepfuneituo, son of late Khriezo Rio, a resident of Signal Angami, Dimapur. Police said the SUV had moved dangerously close to the station platform before getting immobilised on the tracks.
Upon receiving information about the incident, police personnel immediately rushed to the spot in coordination with railway authorities. The vehicle was safely intercepted and removed from the tracks without causing any harm to passengers, railway property or the general public. Train movement in the area was secured in time, preventing a potentially serious accident.
Preliminary inquiries suggested that the act was the result of gross negligence and a clear violation of traffic and railway safety regulations. Both the driver and the vehicle were taken into custody and a case has been registered at the Railway Protection Force (RPF) post in Dimapur.
Police said investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident, including whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol or any other substance at the time.
Meanwhile, Dimapur Police have issued a strong warning to the public, stating that unauthorised entry onto railway tracks is a serious offence that poses grave risks to life and public safety. Officials said such reckless behaviour not only endangers individuals but also puts passengers, train operations and critical infrastructure at risk.
The police have urged citizens to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious or unsafe activities near railway premises.
