Ekta Nagar: Senior TV9 journalist and film critic Sanjeev Srivastava has been honoured with the National Film Award for Best Film Critic. The award was
presented by President Droupadi Murmu at the 72nd National Film Awards ceremony held in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, on September 22, 2026.
The ceremony recognised outstanding contributions to Indian cinema, including films, artistes and writers associated with the 2024 awards cycle. Srivastava received the prestigious Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus) medal in the Best Film Critic category.
The winners of the 72nd National Film Awards were announced on July 18, 2026, when Srivastava’s name was declared the recipient of the Best Film Critic honour. The formal presentation took place during the awards ceremony in Gujarat.
Reacting to the recognition, Srivastava expressed gratitude to his well-wishers, mentors and the jury. He described receiving the National Film Award as a proud moment and said the honour felt like a dream come true.
‘My responsibility has increased’
Speaking about the significance of the award, Srivastava said the recognition has increased his responsibility as a film writer and critic. He has been writing about cinema for nearly 25 years, covering different aspects of the film industry.
According to Srivastava, cinema should not be viewed only as entertainment. He believes films also reflect aspects of society and life, making it important for critics to examine cinema from multiple perspectives.
