New Delhi: There is a warning for people living in Mumbai with the season of summer approaching. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued
a heatwave alert for the city along with Thane and Palghar.
IMD issues warning for Maharashtra
Also, the IMD issued a yellow alert for parts of Maharashtra with hot weather conditions on the cards in the state. According to the weather department, isolated pockets of Mumbai, Thane and Palghar are likely to witness heatwave to severe heatwave conditions on Monday and Tuesday. Issuing a yellow alert, the IMD has warned people about the possibility of unusually high temperatures in the above-mentioned timeframe.
Similar alerts have also been issued for several districts in the state, including Ratnagiri, Raigad, Nandurbar, Dhule, Jalgaon, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Nashik, Jalna, Amravati, and Akola. The IMD has warned, “Hot and humid conditions in isolated pockets were very likely (in these areas),” with the daytime temperature increasing significantly.
Vidarbha remains dry
The IMD on Monday morning issued a yellow alert for the city, Thane, Palghar and Raigad district. The maximum temperature was expected to be between 35.8 and 33.6 degrees Celsius today. As per the IMD’s Regional Meteorological Centre Nagpur, the Vidarbha region would have dry weather conditions. In Akola in Vidarbha district, the highest temperature was 40.9 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the lowest minimum temperature of 17.6 degrees Celsius was recorded in Washim.
The IMD has said there may be heatwave in one or two places in Vidarbha on March 9, 10 and 11. The weather in Mumbai, a coastal city is hot, with temperatures ranging between 25 degrees Celsius and 36 degrees Celsius during the day. The humidity levels are moderate, and the sky is clear. Residents have been advised to stay hydrated and take precautions while going outside during the day.
