New Delhi: Trinamool Congress MP and former cricketer Yusuf Pathan‘s three relatives, including his father-in-law and brother-in-law, have been arrested
over an alleged assault case in Mumbai’s Byculla area.
What happened
It all happened on Saturday when a local resident, Yusuf Khan (30), was driving home. His car reportedly encountered a puddle, splashing water onto Shoaib Khan (35), a relative of Yusuf Pathan.
ANI reported that Yusuf Khan said he stopped to tender his apology, but the situation turned ugly. Shoaib allegedly abused Yusuf Khan, shattered his car’s windshield with a bamboo stick, and even assaulted him.
After he reached home, Yusuf Khan’s family asked him to get in touch with the police. However, as they were going to meet the cops, the family reportedly met Khalid Khan, also known as Makaliq, who is Pathan’s father-in-law.
According to police, Khalid, along with his son Umarshad Khan (35), Shoaib Khan, and another accused, Shehbaz Pathan, got into a fresh argument with Yusuf Khan and his relatives.
Investigators contended that the group then allegedly assaulted Yusuf Khan and his family members with bamboo sticks and baseball bats. During the attack, Yusuf Khan’s brother Salman sustained a fractured arm, while his uncle Zaki Ahmed was seriously injured.
Case registered
The three accused, including the father-in-law, were taken into police custody. Police have also launched a search for the fourth accused. A case has been registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including 118(2), 115(2), 324, 352, 351(2) and 3(5).
The arrested persons have been presented before a court and remanded to judicial custody. Police said the arrests were supported by CCTV footage, eyewitness accounts, and the recovery of weapons, like th bamboo sticks and baseball bats—allegedly used in the assault.
