New Delhi: The wait for new GeForce graphics cards just got longer, and gamers are not happy about it. Fresh reporting suggests that Nvidia is slowing
down its consumer GPU roadmap as it puts more focus on AI accelerators, which now dominate the company’s priorities and supply chain.
According to a new report from The Information, Nvidia is not planning to launch any new GPUs in 2026. The same report says the next-generation RTX 60 series has slipped beyond 2027, adding to concerns that the gaming side of Nvidia’s business is taking a back seat.
RTX 50 Super refresh now appears shelved
Many PC enthusiasts expected Nvidia to announce an RTX 50 Super refresh at CES 2026. That did not happen. Just before the event, Nvidia publicly confirmed that it would not announce any new GPUs at CES, a first for the company in five years.
The Information reports that Nvidia had already completed the design of its RTX 50 Super cards. However, a shortage of outgoing memory chips, especially high-capacity GDDR7, pushed executives to deprioritize production.
Nvidia told Tom’s Hardware, “Demand for GeForce RTX GPUs is strong, and memory supply is constrained. We continue to ship all GeForce SKUs and are working closely with our suppliers to maximize memory availability.”
Rumours over the past months pointed to three Super models.
- RTX 5080 Super with 24GB GDDR7 and around 415W TGP
- RTX 5070 Ti Super with 24GB GDDR7 and around 350W TDP
- RTX 5070 Super with 18GB GDDR7, 6,400 CUDA cores, and around 275W TDP
None of these have been announced.
AI GPUs taking priority
The report claims Nvidia managers decided that high-density 3GB GDDR7 memory is too valuable to use on gaming cards. The same memory is needed for AI accelerators and professional GPUs, which bring much higher margins.
This shift also explains why Nvidia is reportedly prioritising RTX 50 series cards with lower VRAM configurations and cutting overall GPU supply by around 20 percent.
The only small positive note is that CEO Jensen Huang is said to be exploring ways to bring back older GPU designs to keep some level of supply in the market.
RTX 60 series also pushed back
Early rumours had pointed to a second-half 2027 launch for the RTX 60 series based on the Rubin architecture, with a flagship RTX 6090 possibly offering 30 percent higher performance than RTX 5090. The new report now suggests even that timeline could slip.
One major reason is memory availability. Nvidia may struggle to secure enough capacity from suppliers like Samsung Electronics, Micron Technology, and SK hynix.
