Patna: A large number of protesting students broke through police barricades near Bihar Chief MinisterSamrat Choudhary’s residence in Patna on Tuesday,
forcing the police to use water cannons against them.
Candidates for BPSC (Bihar Public Service Commission) TRE-4 and other students marched from Patna’s Gandhi Maidan towards Dak Bungalow. After the police detained several protesters, many of them jostled with the police and broke through barricades, news agency PTI reported.
Students have been protesting for several days
Notably, students have been protesting at Patna’s Gardanibagh for several days. Among their major demands are a single-tier examination in BPSC-TRE 4. They also demand transparency in the recruitment procedure and recruitment exams by the Bihar Staff Selection Commission (BSSC). Among others. They also demanded the cancellation of the 70th BPSC exams.
Congress leader Sushil Kumar, who was present at the protest site, said as per news agency ANI, “We want to state clearly that a single-stage examination must be implemented for TRE 4.0 at all costs, and negative marking should be abolished. There are numerous other issues as well, regarding the BPSC, BSSC, Sub-Inspector recruitment. The government has offered no assurances on any of these points”.
He added, “We have urged the Chief Minister to hold a dialogue; he should invite our delegation for talks. We have been on a hunger strike for nine days, yet no one is willing to listen to us. Just imagine, had the government engaged in dialogue, this situation would not have arisen. We are heading towards the Chief Minister’s residence; the Chief Minister should hold talks, and our delegation will go there for the discussion.”
Tejashwi Yadav writes letter to CM Samrat Chaudhary
In the meantime, Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav also wrote a letter to Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary on the BPSC examination row. In his letter, Yadav urged him not to ignore demands of the protesters’ demands and engage in constructive dialogue.
