New Delhi: Dense fog continued to disrupt normal life in the national capital on Thursday morning, severely affecting visibility, rail services and flight
operations. The dense fog has come amid chilling temperatures in Delhi NCR, with Lodhi Road recording a low of 3.6 degrees Celsius, while Gurugram recorded temperatures at 3.5 degrees Celsius. The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for cold wave conditions in the capital region.
At Palam, visibility dropped sharply from 200 metres at 5:00 am to 100 metres by 5:30 am, before worsening further to just 50 metres by 6:00 am. The low visibility conditions have persisted since then, with light westerly winds blowing at 7–9 kmph. In Safdarjung, visibility fell from 400 metres at 6:00 am to 100 metres by 6:30 am amid calm wind conditions. Weather officials said visibility is likely to improve within the next three hours.
Later updates showed Palam continuing to report dense fog with visibility at 50 metres, while conditions at Safdarjung improved slightly to 200 metres under moderate fog.
Flights and trains disrupted
Rail traffic in Delhi remained hit due to the fog, with around 50 trains running behind schedule. The Satyagrah Express was delayed by nearly four-and-a-half hours, while the Neelamchal Express was running approximately five hours late.
