Kolkata: Almost all banks have now focused on providing more and more services on the digital platforms and online mode. However, a large number of Indians
are still more comfortable in physical banking the old way. In fact there is some work like getting a demand draft for which one must visit the branch of a bank to take delivery.
So, today and tomorrow — Dec 31 2025 and Jan 1 2026 — many banking customers will ask whether banks are closed today and tomorrow. While in some states banks will remain closed on December 31, 2025, others will maintain normal operations both today and tomorrow. In fact, one must know the schedule of banking holiday in one’s state before stepping out of home to visit the branch of a bank. This is especially true for a number of elders who are facing winter chills at the end of December in many parts of the country.

Banking channels open
However, nowadays for many it doesn’t really matter whether banks are closed or open. All banks offer almost all routine services on their apps and through online mode. Moreover, thousands of ATMs around the country will be operational and cash will be fed into these machines. Citizens can continue to access online banking services, ATMs, mobile banking apps and UPI for all sorts of fund transfers, bill payments and other enquiries and transactions. It must be noted that bank holidays vary from state to state and banks also remain closed on every second and fourth Saturday of every month apart from all Sundays.
