New Delhi: BMW has closed calendar year 2025 on a high in India, and the numbers show it clearly. In a market where luxury car buyers are becoming more
cautious and better informed, the German brand has managed to grow faster than the segment itself. That alone makes the story worth a closer look.
Growth is coming from multiple directions at once. Electric cars, long wheelbase sedans, SUVs, and even motorcycles are all pulling their weight. It is not just one hero product doing the heavy lifting.
BMW Group India posts highest-ever sales in 2025
BMW Group India reported its highest-ever annual car sales in 2025, delivering 18,001 cars. This marks a 14 percent year-on-year rise, which is higher than the average growth seen in India’s luxury car segment.
Out of this total, BMW sold 17,271 cars, while MINI contributed 730 units. On the two-wheeler side, BMW Motorrad delivered 5,841 motorcycles during the year.
The final quarter played a big role. Q4 sales touched 6,023 cars, up 17 percent, making it the strongest quarter BMW India has ever recorded. The company says every quarter and every month in 2025 set a new internal benchmark.
Electric vehicles drive a big part of the growth
Electric vehicles are no longer a side story for BMW in India. In 2025, the group delivered 3,753 BMW and MINI electric vehicles, a jump of 200 percent compared to the previous year.
EVs now make up 21 percent of BMW Group India’s total car sales. Last year, that number was just 8 percent. Models like the BMW i7 at the top end and the BMW iX1 at the entry level continue to lead their respective segments. The iX1, in particular, has become the highest-selling premium EV in the country.
From a buyer’s point of view, the shift feels real now. Charging access has improved, and EV pricing has become easier to justify after recent tax changes.
Long wheelbase models strike a chord
One of the most interesting trends is the rise of long wheelbase BMW models. Sales in this category jumped 162 percent year-on-year to 8,608 units.
These cars now account for half of BMW’s total sales in India, up from 29 percent last year. Indian buyers clearly want more rear seat space and comfort, especially in chauffeur-driven use. The 3 Series long wheelbase remains BMW’s highest-selling sedan and also leads its segment.
SUVs remain the backbone
Sports Activity Vehicles continue to be BMW India’s volume driver. SAV sales grew 22 percent to 10,748 units in 2025, accounting for about 60 percent of total sales.
The BMW X1 was the best-selling SUV for the brand, followed by the larger BMW X5. This reflects a broader shift in India where SUVs are now the default choice, even in the luxury space.
MINI and motorcycles
MINI India delivered 730 cars in 2025, posting a modest 3 percent growth. The MINI Cooper S remained the brand’s strongest performer, with sales rising 47 percent year-on-year.
BMW Motorrad also had a solid year. The G 310 RR emerged as the highest-selling model, with deliveries up 24 percent. In the premium bike segment, models like the S 1000 RR and the GS range continued to attract demand.
Retail push and what lies ahead
BMW Group India now operates 97 touchpoints across 40 cities. In 2026, the company plans to add 19 more outlets in 18 cities under its Retail.NEXT format.
