Bengaluru: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, who is expected to be the next chief minister of the state, declared assets worth more than Rs
1,400 crore in his 2023 election affidavit, placing him among the wealthiest politicians in India.

According to documents filed during the 2023 Karnataka Assembly elections, Shivakumar and his dependents reported combined assets valued at Rs 1,413.78 crore. This marked a sharp increase from the Rs 840.08 crore declared in the 2018 polls.
The affidavit showed that the Congress leader’s family owned movable assets worth Rs 273.42 crore and immovable properties valued at Rs 1,140.36 crore. Of this, Shivakumar’s personal immovable assets alone were estimated at Rs 972.65 crore.
The filing also revealed liabilities exceeding ₹503 crore, according to the figures disclosed in the affidavit.

The declaration mentioned that the Kanakapura MLA owned a registered Toyota Qualis vehicle. It also listed luxury watches from brands including Rolex and Hublot, along with holdings in gold and silver.
The affidavit further stated that 19 criminal cases were pending against Shivakumar at the time he filed his nomination papers for the Karnataka Assembly elections.

His declared assets have seen significant growth over the years — from around Rs 75 crore in 2008 to Rs 251 crore in 2013, Rs 840 crore in 2018, and over Rs 1,413 crore in 2023.
DK Shivakumar is a senior Congress leader from Karnataka and currently serves as the state’s Deputy Chief Minister as well as president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC). Amid the ongoing political developments in the state, Shivakumar is expected to be the next Chief Minister of Karnataka.
A multiple-time MLA from the Kanakapura constituency, Shivakumar entered politics in the 1980s and was first elected to the Karnataka Assembly in 1989. Over the years, he has held several key portfolios, including energy and urban development.
