New Delhi: Angry fans in Lucknow vented their frustration and demanded a refund after the fourth T20I between India and South Africa at the Ekana Stadium
in the city wascalled off due to “excessive fog”. The match was abandoned without a ball being bowled, leaving fans disappointed and heartbroken.
Fans turned up in great numbers to watch the game as the Ekana Stadium was packed for the fourth T20I between India and South Africa. However, there was no play possible due to low visibility as dense fog and smog blanketed the stadium. Fans returned home dejected after the game was cancelled.
The toss, which was scheduled at 7:00 PM IST, was delayed indefinitely before the match officials conducted as many as six inspections at the ground. In the end, they decided not to go ahead with even a reduced contest as the smog and visibility continued to worsen.
Outside the stadium, angry fans lashed out at the BCCI and the organisers, demanding a refund as many paid their hard-earned money to watch a game of cricket. A video shared by ANI showed fans holding tickets in their hands and asking for a refund from the authorities. One of them revealed he came to watch the match after selling three bags of wheat.
“I sold three sacks of wheat and came here to watch the match. I want my money back…” the fan can be heard saying in the video.
