New Delhi: Actor Vidyut Jammwal grabbed attention at the Los Angeles premiere of Street Fighter, where he posed with his co-stars Jason Momoa and Olivier
Richters. Pictures from the event circulated on social media, with fans reacting to the star-studded frame ahead of the film’s release on October 16.
In his upcoming film, Jammwal plays Dhalsim, a character familiar to fans of the popular Street Fighter video game franchise. Known for his martial arts skills, yoga and supernatural abilities, Dhalsim shares several traits with the Indian actor, who has trained in the traditional martial art of kalaripayattu since the age of three.

Vidyut Jammwal on playing Dhalsim in Street Fighter
Talking about his role in Street Fighter, Vidyut Jammwal said, “He is a martial artist, a kalaripayattu practitioner. He does yoga. Of course, he does that yoga flame and the supernatural things that I can’t. But it was very close to me.”
The actor is also sharing screen space with several established names from Hollywood and professional wrestling. The film features Noah Centineo, Andrew Koji, Callina Liang, Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes, 50 Cent and Jason Momoa.
“For me, I was looking forward to working with legends I have always known. I was excited I would get to be with these people rather than just meeting them for a party,” he said.
He also said spending time with the film’s cast influenced his understanding of success and humility. With his experience, he described the people he worked with as successful yet grounded.
“As a person, I have been around some of the strongest men in the world, and being in their presence and witnessing them has been a life-changing experience. These are men you can really hang around with. These are different people. They are successful, yet secure. They are wealthy but humble. There is no pretence,” he explained.
The actor also hopes the film will introduce kalaripayattu to audiences around the world. Asked whether the traditional Indian martial art could achieve the kind of international recognition Kung Fu received through Bruce Lee, he said, “If I could do what Bruce Lee did for Kung Fu? Kung Fu had its good fortune. Kalaripayattu will have its time too.”
Street Fighter is scheduled to release in theatres on October 16.
