New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has reportedly approached the Supreme Court over the Election Commission’s interim decision preventing
the rival factions of the Trinamool Congress from using the party’s original name and reserved election symbol.
This comes amid a deepening dispute over control of the party and its electoral identity. The Election Commission had on Thursday barred both factions from using the name ‘All India Trinamool Congress’ and the traditional ‘Flowers and Grass’ symbol for the upcoming bypolls.
The poll panel said the arrangement was an interim measure while the dispute between the two groups is considered under the Election Symbols (Reservation and Allotment) Order.
