New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh all-rounder Prashant Veer and Rajasthan batter Kartik Sharma hit the jackpot at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction on Tuesday
as they became the joint-most expensive uncapped players in the league’s history. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) spent a whopping Rs 14.20 crore each to sign Prashant and Kartik at the auction in the UAE.
While Kartik is a young wicket-keeper batter who is known for his explosive hitting prowess, Prashant is a rising left-arm all-rounder from Uttar Pradesh. Prashant, a slow left-arm spinner and a capable lower middle order batter, is known for his economical bowling and ability to play the big shots while finishing matches.
He was one of the stand-out players in the UPT20 2025, smashing 320 runs and picking up 8 wickets in ten matches. He scored 320 runs at an impressive strike rate of over 155 while batting in the lower middle order for the Noida Super Kings in the tournament. Thanks to his heroics, CSK took notice of his talent and called him for trials.
Prashant won the Emerging Player of the Season award in the UP T20 League earlier this year and continued his rise for Uttar Pradesh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025, where he scored 112 runs in six innings at a strike rate of close to 170 as a finisher and picked up 9 wickets at a brilliant economy rate of 6.76.
20-year-old Veer is one of the best emerging all-round talents and has been touted by many to become an ideal replacement for Ravindra Jadeja at CSK. Jadeja was traded to the Rajasthan Royals by CSK ahead of the IPL 2026 auction, in exchange for Sanju Samson.
