New Delhi: Amid the ongoing controversy over Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, the INDIA Bloc has decided to hold five big rallies across the country
to demand his resignation. The alliance will also hold a protest outside the office of the Chief Election Commission.
Addressing the media after the meeting of the alliance, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said that leaders of INDIA Bloc have unanimously called for the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar. The demand has increased in recent days following a report by The Indian Express.
The report claimed that Election Commissioners SS Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had expressed displeasure over SIR rollout 14 times in 10 months. After the report, the Opposition has upped the ante against Gyanesh Kumar.
“The discussion continued for at least three to three-and-a-half hours, and everyone participated. Many leaders expressed their views. Apart from that, Uddhav Thackeray and Hemant Soren also participated online. I am happy that everyone unanimously agreed to fight together, unitedly and strongly,” Kharge told media persons on Monday.
He added, “Opposition to hold five big rallies in October and November to highlight ‘vote chori’ issue across country. All Opposition MPs will march to to the Election Commission office on October 6 against poll body.”
Main issue is the theft of votes: Rahul Gandhi
“We had a very good discussion. The main issue is the theft of votes. The view of all the parties is that the democratic system of India has been attacked by the BJP, Narendra Modi, Amit Shah and Gyanesh Kumar. We are not going to take it lying down. We are going to ensure that those who have destroyed Indian democracy are punished,” Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha and senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said.
Mamata says Gyanesh Kumar involved in ‘vote chori’
Also speaking at the press conference, former West Bengal chief minister and All India Trinamool Congress (MAITC) chief Mamata Banerjee said, “CEC Gyanesh Kumar is involved in ‘vote chori’, rigging of polls. he must resign immediately. The INDIA alliance is united and stands together against this ‘big scam’ of ‘vote chori’.”
