New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday renewed his attack on the Centre over alleged ‘vote chori’ and appealed to people, particularly the youth,
to join the INDIA bloc’s November 1 rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan.
The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha said people must come together to protect democracy. He also sarcastically thanked the BJP and its allies for promoting the march and spreading awareness about it.
Rahul alleges electoral violations
“Our votes are being stolen, and we will not tolerate this silently under any circumstances,” Gandhi said in a Hindi post on X.
“Names have been deleted from voter lists. Rules and laws have been violated. And those who raised questions were met with lathis. Now, the country will respond. November 1: Chalo Delhi! Save the Vote, Save the Country: Public March and Mega Rally. Students, farmers, workers, women, youth and traders — everyone who cares about democracy must attend. The vote is yours. The fight is yours too,” he added.
Opposition plans mega rally
Opposition leaders have described the Ramlila Maidan rally as the culmination of the ‘Delhi Chalo’ march against alleged vote theft and irregularities in the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
Congress claimed that at least one lakh people would attend. The party said the gathering would send a strong message to the Centre, which it accused of undermining democracy.
Gandhi’s appeal sought participation from students, farmers, workers, women, traders and young people as the opposition stepped up its campaign over electoral concerns.
BJP questions rally date
The BJP criticised Congress after several trade organisations urged the party to cancel the march over fears that it could disrupt business.
It also accused Congress of choosing November 1 without regard for the sentiments of victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
“Rahul Gandhi is adamant and not ready to listen to anybody. In a very calculated manner, Rahul Gandhi is trying to rub salt into the wounded sentiments of the Sikhs by insisting he will hold the rally on November 1. He is bent on playing a cruel joke on Sikhs,” BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad said on Saturday.
The competing statements have sharpened the political exchange ahead of the rally, with Congress pressing its electoral allegations and the BJP questioning the march’s timing and impact.
