New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds across 22 states on Friday, August
28. The weather system is expected to affect parts of northern, central, eastern, northeastern, western and southern India, with some areas facing gusty winds of up to 85-90 kmph.
The alert covers Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Kerala, Tripura, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Assam and Sikkim.
Delhi-NCR faces stormy weather
Delhi is likely to witness heavy rain and thunderstorms on August 28, accompanied by winds of around 40-50 kmph. Similar conditions are expected in parts of the Delhi-NCR region, including Noida and Gurugram.
Delhi’s temperature is likely to remain between 29°C and 36°C. Residents may face sudden spells of rain, lightning and gusty winds during the day.
UP, Bihar under alert
Several districts of Uttar Pradesh are expected to receive heavy rain and thunderstorms. The warning covers areas including Ghaziabad, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Moradabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Agra, Aligarh, Ayodhya, Gorakhpur and Deoria, among others. Strong winds could also affect parts of the state.
Bihar is also likely to see widespread rain and thunderstorms. West Champaran, East Champaran, Patna, Gaya, Gopalganj, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Saharsa, Supaul, Purnia, Katihar, Bhagalpur and Munger are among the districts mentioned in the forecast.
Patna may record a maximum temperature of around 34°C and a minimum of 27°C.
Hills may see heavy rain
The weather warning extends to several Himalayan regions. Uttarakhand could receive heavy rain and thunderstorms in Chamoli, Bageshwar, Haridwar, Nainital, Pithoragarh, Rishikesh, Pauri Garhwal and Uttarkashi, with winds reaching 50 kmph in some locations.
Himachal Pradesh may also experience unsettled weather, particularly in Kullu, Kangra, Kinnaur, Mandi, Chamba, Una, Hamirpur and Solan. Winds of 40-50 kmph are possible.
Parts of Jammu and Kashmir may face heavy rain, thunderstorms and winds of up to 60 kmph.
Rajasthan, MP to see storms
Rajasthan is likely to receive heavy rain and thunderstorms across several districts, including Jaipur, Bharatpur, Sikar, Ajmer, Tonk, Churu and Dholpur. Winds may reach 60-70 kmph in some areas.
Madhya Pradesh is expected to remain wet on August 28 and 29, with heavy rain and thunderstorms forecast in several districts, including Indore, Ujjain, Bhopal, Sagar, Betul and Khandwa.
More states in rain zone
West Bengal, Punjab, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Tripura, Assam and Sikkim are also covered by the IMD’s broader weather warning.
With thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds expected in several regions, residents in affected areas are advised to remain alert and follow local weather advisories.
