New Delhi: A cloudburst-triggered flash flood caused widespread devastation in Arunachal Pradesh’s Potin area after intense monsoon rains unleashed a powerful
torrent of water, sweeping away homes, vehicles and critical infrastructure within minutes on June 24.
The sudden cloudburst sent floodwaters surging through Potin, washing away houses in the NEEPCO Colony and the nearby Poosa village. Poosa village was the worst affected, where one woman died in the disaster, while four others remain missing.

Search and rescue operation underway
Search and rescue operations are underway as authorities race to locate the missing. The NEEPCO Colony, located around 9 km from Potin, remains inaccessible as road connectivity has been cut off.
Eyewitnesses described fast-moving floodwaters sweeping away vehicles, buildings and personal belongings, leaving widespread destruction in their wake. The flash flood also severely damaged roads, disrupted connectivity and affected hundreds of residents.
The Potin-Poosa Village road and the Potin-Yachuli-Ziro road remain blocked due to heavy landslides triggered by the flash flood. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO), district administration and local residents are jointly working to clear the affected stretches and restore connectivity.
Heavy monsoon rains continue in Arunachal Pradesh
Rescue teams and local authorities are continuing relief, search and restoration operations in the affected areas. Officials have urged people living in vulnerable locations to remain alert as heavy monsoon rains continue across parts of Arunachal Pradesh.
The district administration said it is closely monitoring the situation while efforts continue to restore road connectivity and provide relief to affected residents.
