New Delhi: Kareena Kapoor has never hidden her love for food, and when she wanted to lose the weight she gained during pregnancy, starving herself was
never part of the plan. The actor has spoken about accepting her changing body, eating wholesome food, and gradually building up her fitness after welcoming her first child, Taimur. Kareena, who turns 46 on September 21, had earlier opened up about the journey in interviews after motherhood.
Accepting the changes
Pregnancy changed Kareena’s body considerably, but she said she never felt the need to panic about the weight gain. She described pregnancy as a phase she thoroughly enjoyed and accepted that putting on weight was a natural part of carrying a child.
The actor also recalled facing comments about her appearance after childbirth, including remarks about her thighs. Her response was that she was already working towards losing the weight and did not feel the need to be embarrassed about her body in the process.
“Honestly, I’m comfortable in any shape and size,” Kareena told Mid-Day in 2018.
Enjoyed eating food
For Kareena, cutting out food was never the answer. She has described herself as someone who has always enjoyed eating and said she could not imagine achieving her fitness goals by starving herself.
“I lost weight the right way,” she said, while explaining that wholesome food remained an important part of her diet. She also credited nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar for helping her balance her food intake during the process.
Starting small
Exercise was another important part of Kareena’s transformation, but she did not jump straight into an intense routine after delivery.
She recalled beginning with just eight repetitions of each exercise because her back was weak after childbirth. With trainer Namrata Purohit, she gradually progressed to much more demanding workouts, eventually managing high-intensity sessions involving 20 to 30 repetitions performed one after another.
No overnight transformation
Kareena’s account of losing pregnancy weight was less about a quick fix and more about gradually rebuilding her strength and fitness. She acknowledged that getting back into shape after giving birth was hard work and could take time.
Her approach also challenged the pressure often placed on new mothers to immediately return to their pre-pregnancy bodies. Instead of treating weight gain as something to be ashamed of, Kareena spoke about accepting the changes while working towards her fitness goals.
Her post-pregnancy journey remains an example of how she chose to approach weight loss through food, exercise and consistency rather than extreme restriction.
