New Delhi: OpenAI has pulled off another big hire in the AI race. The company has brought in Ruoming Pang, a senior researcher who was leading artificial
intelligence infrastructure work at Meta. The development was first reported by The Information, which cited an OpenAI spokesperson.
The move lands at a time when Silicon Valley is seeing a heated talent fight in artificial intelligence. Companies are offering eye-popping compensation packages to secure researchers who can shape the next generation of AI models. Pang was one of the most visible names in that mix.
OpenAI hires Ruoming Pang from Meta
According to The Information, Pang left Meta last week after being aggressively recruited by OpenAI for several months. At Meta, he oversaw AI infrastructure for the company’s Superintelligence Labs. That unit is building Meta’s next generation of AI systems.
Before joining Meta, Pang had moved from Apple. A Bloomberg report earlier noted that his compensation package at Meta was valued at more than $200 million over several years. That number alone tells you how serious the talent war has become.
Meta and other tech firms have been offering multi million dollar pay packages as they race to lead the next wave of AI. The battle is no longer just about products. It is about people.
A career across Apple, Google and top US universities
Pang’s academic background is strong. Originally from Shanghai, he completed his undergraduate studies at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He later earned a master’s degree in computer science from the University of Southern California and a Ph.D. from Princeton in 2006.
He has moved between big tech firms before.
