New Delhi: Salman Khan may have lived at Mumbai’s Galaxy Apartments for decades, but one of his stories about the famous family home sounds straight out of a supernatural
film. The actor has revealed that he would often sense a mysterious “presence” inside his bedroom, with lights flickering, cupboards opening, and the music system apparently switching on by itself.
Salman shared the unusual experience during the opening episode of Koffee With Karan Season 9, where host Karan Johar was reminiscing about their association dating back to Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.
Despite being friends for years, Salman and Karan have worked together just twice. Salman made an extended appearance in Karan’s 1998 directorial debut Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, which starred Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukerji in the lead roles.
Karan Johar recalls seeing Salman Khan’s tiny bedroom
Karan remembered meeting Salman on the sets of Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai in 1998. “When I visited you on the set of Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai (1998), you were on the 2 pm to 10 pm shift. I arrived at 2 pm. At 9 pm, you told me to come home with you,” he recalled.
Karan then spoke about visiting Galaxy Apartments and being surprised by the simplicity of Salman’s room despite his stardom.
“The family stayed together, including Salim Khan, Salma, Arbaaz, and Sohail. And you had the tiniest room with one cupboard and one bed. I was shocked, thinking, ‘Is this actually Salman Khan’s bedroom?’ As soon as we entered, you took off your clothes and stood there in yellow shorts. I was struggling to ensure that it didn’t seem like I was looking at you.”
But the conversation took an unexpected turn when Salman revealed that he never felt entirely alone in that bedroom.
Salman Khan says he felt someone’s ‘presence’
The actor claimed that strange things would happen whenever he was in the room, from lights flickering to cupboards seemingly opening without anyone touching them.
“I never stayed alone in that room. I always stayed there with somebody whom I had never seen, only heard. Every time I came out of that room, the lights flickered. The cupboards used to open on their own; the music system would turn on on its own. Whenever I was in the bathroom, I could feel someone’s presence outside, fidgeting with the cupboards.”
Salman said the repeated incidents eventually convinced him that there was “somebody or something” inside the room. “That’s how I figured out there was somebody or something there.”
When Karan asked whether Salman believed the room was haunted, the actor stopped short of describing it that way. “Not haunting… but a presence was felt. Whenever I played music, I could feel its presence. So, I used to play music for it and walk out of the room. There was a billiards table outside, and whenever we played there, we could hear that someone was inside the room.”
Salman Khan had unusual request for the mysterious ‘presence’
Surprisingly, Salman said the unexplained incidents did not frighten him because the mysterious presence never harmed him.
“No, because it didn’t do anything. My only request to it was: ‘If you are a really beautiful woman, then reveal yourself to me.’”
Meanwhile, on the work front, Salman will next be seen in Apoorva Lakhia’s Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace.
