Kolkata: From today, April 2, you are going to pay more for IndiGo tickets, thanks to the rising jet fuel prices. You can construe it as a direct outcome
of the war between the US-Israel combine and Iran. India’s largest passenger airline, IndiGo, has announced the implementation of new fuel charges effective April 2. Therefore, for all new ticket bookings, one has to pay higher prices from today. According to the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Jet Fuel Monitor, prices have surged by more than 130 per cent month-on-month. India does not import ATF. Crude oil is imported, which is refined to produce jet fuel in Indian refineries.
Partial relief
Jet fuel or aviation turbine fuel prices were raised in the country on April 1. For domestic airlines the effective hike was by 8.5% and it touched Rs 1,04,927.18 per kilolitre in the national capital. The hikes went up to 100% or more than Rs 2 lakh per kiloliter for international and non-scheduled operators, but to protect domestic service providers the government opted for a “partial” hike.
Fuel charge based on distance
IndiGo has introduced the following new distance-based fuel hike slabs for domestic passengers. It basically means, the shorter the distance of the flight, the less the hike. Conversely, the more the distance to the destination, the higher the rise. These slabs are:
For 0–500 km flight distance: Hike Rs 275
For 501–1,000 km: Hike Rs 400
For 1001–1,500 km: Hike Rs 600
For 1501–2,000 km: Hike Rs 800
For more than 2,000 km: Hike Rs 950
New fuel charges for international routes
For international routes, ATF prices have surged by more than 100% over the past month, pushing up the operating costs very high. The hikes for the international routes are the following:
Indian subcontinent (up to 500 km): Rise by Rs 900
Indian subcontinent (more than 500 km): Rise by Rs 2,500
Southeast Asia and China: Rise by Rs 5,000
Africa: Rise by Rs 5,000
GCC & Middle East: (up to 2,000 km): Rise by Rs 3,000
GCC & Middle East: (more than 2,000 km): Rise by Rs 5,000
Other routes up to 2,000 km: Rise by Rs 3,500
More than 2,000 km: Rise by Rs 5,000
Greece and Türkiye: Rise by Rs 7,500
UK and Europe (excluding Greece-Türkiye): Rise by Rs 10,000
