New Delhi: IT services giant Infosys has begun collecting data on household electricity consumption of its employees as part of efforts to measure and
offset emissions linked to hybrid working.
Under its hybrid work policy, employees work from home for most of the month and are required to be on campus for at least 10 days. As a result, a major share of the company’s environmental footprint now extends beyond office premises.
In an email to staff, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jayesh Sanghrajka said Infosys has launched a work-from-home electricity consumption survey to gather accurate data on household energy use, according to a report by Economic Times.

“With hybrid work becoming an integral part of our operations, the environmental impact of our work increasingly extends beyond our campuses and into our homes. Electricity consumed while working from home also contributes toward Infosys’ greenhouse gas emission footprint. As we seek to enhance and update our reporting methodology, obtaining accurate data on current work-from-home energy usage is essential to our ongoing efforts,” the CFO wrote.
The survey seeks details on the use of electrical appliances, including lighting, fans, air conditioners, heaters and computers, as well as information on solar power usage at home. The report further mentioned that the employees have also been invited to share ideas on energy conservation.
‘Sustainability a collective responsibility’
Infosys said it views sustainability as a collective responsibility and highlighted that it has achieved carbon neutrality ahead of global timelines. It has also cut per capita energy consumption by 55 per cent since 2008, and sourced nearly 78 per cent of its electricity from renewable energy in the last financial year.
The company, which employs over 300,000 people, said it was among the first Indian corporates to estimate and report work-from-home emissions in 2020-21 and is now revalidating its assumptions to improve accuracy.
