New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) concluded its second round of questioning of Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) president and actor Vijay
today in connection with the September 27, 2025, stampede at his campaign rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu which claimed 41 lives. The session lasted five hours, bringing the total time Vijay has been questioned to over 12 hours across two sittings.
The interrogation, which began at 11:30 AM and ended at 4:30 PM at the CBI headquarters in Delhi, focused on critical aspects of the rally’s planning and execution. According to sources, Vijay was asked about the seven-hour delay in his arrival at the event, whether he failed to notice the crowd surge from his campaign vehicle, what immediate measures were taken when the stampede occurred, and why his vehicle was moved forward during the chaos. While he answered some questions, he reportedly sought time to respond to others and was instructed to submit supporting evidence.

CBI’s Dual-Track Investigation
Even as Vijay was being questioned in Delhi, CBI teams continued parallel on-site investigations in Karur, gathering forensic and eyewitness accounts. The probe was initiated following a Supreme Court order and has already seen the examination of over 200 witnesses, including party functionaries, police officers, and local administrators.
Political Timing and Speculation
There is growing speculation in political circles that the CBI is working to file a charge sheet by the second week of February, ahead of the Tamil Nadu assembly elections. While TVK Joint General Secretary C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar dismissed rumours of Vijay’s imminent arrest or inclusion in the charge sheet as “false,” the agency’s accelerated timeline has added a layer of political tension to the case.
– No further summons or dates so far
– Vijay sir was called only as a witness
– TVK is fully cooperating with the probe
– Our demand is fair probe and real culprits brought to justice

Parallel Legal Battle: ‘Jana Nayagan’ Censor Case
Separately, Vijay’s film Jana Nayagan remains embroiled in a legal battle over its censor certificate, with the next hearing scheduled in the Madras High Court on January 20. The twin legal challenges—one criminal, one regulatory—have placed the actor-politician at the center of a high-stakes political and judicial narrative just weeks before the state goes to the polls.
