Chennai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rains in parts of Tamil Nadu today. In various parts of the state, rains are likely
to be accompanied with thunder and strong winds. According to the weather department, districts like Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Dindigul, Tiruppur, Karur, Namakkal, Theni, Salem, Erode, Dharmapuri, Trichy, Tirupattur, Vellore, Krishnagiri, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Nellai, Tenkasi, Kanyakumari and Thoothukudi.
What IMD statement said?
“Heavy rain at isolated places with thunderstorm & lightning with gusty winds speed reaching 40-50 kmph at one or two places is likely to occur over Ranipet, Vellore, Tirupattur, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Erode, Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Theni, Namakkal, Karur, Tiruchirappalli, Tiruvannamalai, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari Thoothukudi districts,” the IMD said in a statement. It added, “Light to Moderate rain at a few places with thunderstorm & lightning at one or two places is likely to occur over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area.”
On June 3 and June 4, heavy rain is likely in parts of Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Tiruppur, Theni, Dindigul, Tenkasi, Kumari, Nellai, Erode, Namakkal, Dharmapuri, Salem, Tirupattur, Krishnagiri, Vellore, Ranipet and Tiruvannamalai.
Heavy rains to continue in parts of Tamil Nadu
Similarly, the weather department predicted heavy rain along with thunder and strong winds in various districts of Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Theni, Tiruppur, Nellai, Tenkasi, Dindigul, Kumari, Virudhunagar, Thoothukudi, Salem, Erode, Trichy, Namakkal, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Kallakurichi, Karur, Sivagangai and Mayiladuthurai on June 5. Similarly, on June 7, heavy rains accompanied by thundershowers are expected in parts of Erode, Salem, Namakkal, Virudhunagar, Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Theni, Tenkasi, Nellai and Kumari districts.

The sky is likely to be partly cloudy in Chennai and nearby areas. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 40 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is expected to be around 29 degrees Celsius. This may result heat-related discomfort, as per the Chennai Meteorological Department.
