New Delhi: A day after the government put India’s GDP growth rate at 7.8 percent in the first quarter of the current financial year, the BJP on Tuesday
asked Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi to apologise to the country for ‘spreading lies’.
Addressing a press conference, senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said that India reached 7.8 percent despite the Middle East crisis. He noted that several other countries were affected due to global uncertainty, but India’s economy remained strong.

“India’s GDP growth stood at 7.8 percent Q1 of the first financial year. It is important since the Middle East crisis was on from January to March this year. There was global uncertainty. Still India’s GDP reached 7.8 percent,” he said.
The former Union Minister. “During the same period, Canada was 1.5 percent, Germany 1 percent, UK 2.1 percent, Malaysia 6 percent in GDP. Every other country faced crises because of the Middle East crisis and the Strait of Hormuz situation”.
Talking about his days in the Opposition, Prasad noted, “In 2013, India was among the fragile five. There was policy paralysis. Now our GDP has reached this growth rate. This is possible when the country has stable leadership. All sectors, from manufacturing to service sectors, contributed to this growth. India is now emerging as a real major economy of the world”.

“India’s economy is strong on the domestic front. Has Rahul Gandhi taken the contract to weaken the morale of the country? He spread lies in the last few months. Does he have any shame? He never does any homework. He is bereft of any understanding of India’s economy even as he is LoP,” the BJP leaders said while targeting Rahul Gandhi.
