New Delhi: Star Indian batter Rohit Sharma has been a pillar for the Indian cricket team for over 15 years across formats. While having retired from the T20I
format and the Tests this year, Rohit is only active in the ODIs and the IPL. The seasoned player has achieved numerous achievements for the Indian cricket but a former Indian cricketer believes that he has not been consistent enough when it comes to scoring runs.
Former India batter Mohammad Kaif thinks that it would be difficult for the selectors to assess Rohit Sharma in the upcoming Australia tour due to his inconsistency with the bat. On his YouTube channel, Rohit explained by giving an example of the kind of innings Rohit has played throughout his career.
Gill replaces Rohit as ODI skipper
Shubman Gill replaced Rohit Sharma as the skipper of India in ODIs starting from the Australia tour. Kaif said that for selectors to assess Rohit’s place in the team, just batting won’t suffice the purpose as it has been not so consistent in the last few years.
‘People are saying that Virat Kohli will be assessed, but I think that is something which will apply to Rohit Sharma. Rohit is not captaining, and the way he has been playing over the years, scoring 20 to 30, but when a big match comes, he scores 80, a match-winning knock, that’s how his career has gone. He never scores consistently.’
On his YouTube channel, Kaif also reminded how Rohit despite the ‘inconsistency’ in the Champions Trophy, went on to become the Player of the Match in the final.
Meanwhile, Rohit has been one of the finest captains for India in the white-ball game. He lifted the the T20 World Cup 2024 and the Champions Trophy recently this year and also played a crucial role in taking India to the final of the ODI World Cup back in 2023. Rohit would be next seen in the Australia series commencing later this month.
