Kolkata: The Indian stock market slipped into the red in early trade. A few minutes after trading began, Sensex 30 was at 78,132.71, down 0.028% or 21.54
points while Nifty 50 stood at 24,461.20, down 0.043% or 10.50 points. The crude prices continued their upward mark and kissed $90 a barrel.
Crude oil price today
Crude oil prices rose on Wednesday in early trade. Brent futures gained 72 cents, or 0.81%, to reach $89.63 a barrel, while West Texas Intermediate crude climbed 71 cents, or 0.85%, to $83.91. There were reports of attacks on two ships and they stoked concerns about supply disruptions, However, industry data showed U.S. crude inventories expanded.
Rupee vs US Dollar
The Indian rupee fell 5 paise to reach 95.41 against US dollar in early trade today. On Tuesday, the Indian currency declined 6 paise to settle at 95.36 against the greenback. However, recent foreign capital inflows have offered some support to the Indiaan unit.
Prominent gainers and laggards
At 9:20 AM, the prominent gainers in the Sensex 30 basket were TECHM (+0.98%), SBIN (+0.45%), ASIANPAINT (+0.40%), ETERNAL (+0.25%) and HCLTECH (+0.17%). The prominent laggards in the same basket were ULTRACEMCO (-0.57%), LT (-0.61%), KOTAKBANK (-0.62%), BHARTIARTL (-0.73%) and M&M (-1.09%).
Asian markets this morning
The major Asian indices were in the mixed zone on Wednesday. At 9:10 AM, GIFT NIFTY was 0.18% up, Nikkei 225 0.47% up, Straits Times 0.40% down, Hang Seng 1.12% down, Taiwan Weighted 0.77% up, KOSPI 4.54% up, Jakarta Composite 0.41 up, Shanghai Composite 0.32% up.
Indian market yesterday
The Indian market came under selling pressure on August 12. “After a muted start, the market remained under pressure through most of the session. However, buying at lower levels helped erase some of the losses, though the indices closed near the day’s lows,” said Rajesh Agarwal of AUM Capital. The Sensex fell 388.19 points or 0.49% to 78,154.25 and the Nifty settled down by 112.10 points or 0.46% down at 24,471.70. BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices gained by 0.17% and 0.15%. Of the 4521 stocks traded on BSE, 1919 stocks rose, 2396 stocks declined while 206 remained unchanged.
