The move is receiving mixed comments, as while proponents say it could boost investment, detractors warn it may raise fairness concerns and complicate the country’s tax framework.

Turkish officials have framed the proposal as part of a broader effort to position the country as a competitive global hub. According to one statement, the goal is to “encourage international investors and skilled professionals to base themselves in Turkey while contributing to the domestic economy.” The argument being made by those favourable of the move is that it could replicate similar initiatives seen in countries like Portugal and the UAE.
Nonetheless detractors of the move also exist. Some economists caution that such incentives risk creating a two-tier tax system, and that by offering long-term exemptions on foreign income, tax equity might be undermined.
