Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Monday announced that the milk price in the state has been increased to Rs 44 per litre from Rs 41
per litre. The chief announcement announce the increase of price at the state assembly on Monday.
The step was taken following protests by milk producers after the price was increased to Rs 41 from Rs 38. After their protests, the price of the milk was further increased by Rs 3. In the Assembly on Monday, the chief minister announced several public welfare and development schemes under Rule 110. The most important announcement was that of a further increase in milk prices. It is believed that milk producers in rural areas and farmers who supply milk through Aavin cooperative societies benefit from the latest announcement.
Govt recently increased price to Rs 41 per litre
Importantly, the state government had recently increased the Aavin milk price from Rs 38 to Rs 41. However, the milk producers were unhappy since private milk companies are offering a Rs. 45 to Rs. 50 per litre price for milk. It was due to this that the chief minister announced a further increase of milk price from Rs 41 per litre to Rs 44 per litre.
Latest hike likely to provide fair prices to milk producers
It is being felt that the latest hike in milk prices will turn out to be a good solution to the challenges faced by the members of the cooperatives supplying milk to Aavin because of the competition from private companies and rising production costs. The latest hike is expected to provide fair prices to milk producers. It will also help in significantly increasing the volume of milk regularly supplied to Aavin. Various milk producer associations and agricultural organizations have welcomed this swift move by the government.
