New Delhi: A major shooting incident was reported from near the site of a community street festival in Toledo, Ohio in the United States. According to
the police, several people injured in the incident were moved to a hospital, after gunfire erupted near the venue of the Old West End Festival.
Search for suspect on: Police
The police further said that a search is on to locate the suspect. Talking about the shooting incident, the Toledo Police said that they responded to reports of shooting near the festival site at around 5:30 pm local time on Saturday. Upon reaching the scene they found multiple people who had been wounded due to gunshots.
The police later revealed that in total 8 people had been shot at. However none of them have suffered life-threatening wounds and all of them are expected to survive. According to a report in AP, most of the victims were taken to a local hospital and are expected to survive.
Investigations are on in the shooting incident. Heavy police deployment continues in the area and efforts are on to trace and nab the suspect, said a report in the Times of India. The police have so far not said anything about the possible motive of the attack.
The Old West End Festival is a popular 2-day community event in Toledo. This event held annually, features live music, food stalls, shopping carts and home tours. This festival is regarded as the city’s unofficial start of the summer festival season.
Eyewitnesses said that panic gripped the revellers, as gunshots rang out at the event. One of the eyewitnesses, Kevin Berry who was with his friends, listening to live music said, “Everybody hit the deck.”
Berry said that as he looked up, he saw a firearm being thrown to the ground, less than 50 feet away from him. He also said that police officers deployed at the festival rushed towards the site, where the gunshots were heard.
Berry claimed that after matters settled down, he began looking for injured people who might need assistance. He said that he was a US Navy veteran. He claimed to have seen at least 5 injured people, post the shooting.
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine reacting to the shooting said that summer festivals should remain safe spaces for families. He said that he was confident that the police would identify and arrest those responsible for the shooting.
