New Delhi: His double century in the second Test against England in Birmingham is Shubman Gill’s most cherished moment of the England tour, the India Test skipper
said after being named ICC’s player of the month for July.
Gill scored a series high 754 runs in five matches in England that India drew 2-2. It is Gill’s fourth player of the month award after January 2023, September 2023 and February 2025.
Gill scored four hundreds in the tour, to lead from the front on his debut tour as the Test skipper to become the first male player to win the player of the month award four times.
“It feels great to be named the ICC Player of the Month for July. This time it holds a lot more significance since it has come for my performances during my first Test series as captain.
“The double ton in Birmingham is obviously something I will cherish forever and will be one of the highlights of my tour to England,” Gill said in an ICC statement.
“The Test series against England was a learning experience for me as captain and we had some outstanding performances from both sides, which I am sure players from both sides will remember for a long time.”
The 25-year-old said he now wants to continue his rich vein of form that saw him shatter Sunil Gavaskar’s mark for most runs by an Indian skipper in a Test series.
“I would like to thank the jury for selecting me for this award and my teammates who have been with me during the course of this exciting series. I look forward to continuing my form in the season ahead and bring more laurels for the country.”
Binny to remain as BCCI chief till AGM
Roger Binny is expected to carry on as the BCCI president until its annual general meeting in September.
The former all-rounder turned 70 last month and could continue till 75 as the ICC don’t have any specifically mentioned age clause.
“Roger will continue till board meeting in September. Whether he will get a fresh term depends on what members and other powerful people associated with the BCCI decide,” a Board source told PTI.
