New Delhi: The year 2025 is a year of defining chapter in India’s infrastructure development. Developments have been seen in every sector since the beginning
of the year, be it railways, aviation, highways, digital, and maritime; the growths were witnessed in every sphere.
It may be noted that the capital investment outlay for infrastructure increased to Rs 11.21 lakh crore in FY 2025-26, even as India is likely to add add $1 trillion to its GDP every 12-18 months through 2047.
Among the major infrastructure projects in 2025 are:
Connecting Mizoram to India’s national railway network for the first time: History has been created with Mizoram joining India’s national railway network. This is a significant achievement for the Northeast and fulfills a long-held aspiration of the state’s people. The 51-kilometer-long Bairabi-Sairang railway line, built at a cost of over Rs 8,000 crore, has directly connected Aizawl to India’s national railway network for the first time in independent India’s history. Emergency services, military logistics, civilian healthcare, education, and employment opportunities for the population of Mizoram have all been significantly transformed by a single railway line.
World’s highest railway bridge inaugurated: India’s engineering prowess has scaled new heights with the inauguration of the world’s highest railway bridge, Chenab Bridge, under the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link Project. This historic achievement has connected the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country through all-weather rail connectivity, thereby realising a long-standing national goal.
India’s first vertical-lift sea bridge: Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the new Pamban Bridge in Tamil Nadu this year.The new Pamban Bridge is India’s first vertical lift sea bridge and bears similarities to other globally recognized bridges known for their technological advancements and unique designs, including the Golden Gate Bridge in the United States, the Tower Bridge in London, and the Denmark-Sweden Oresund Bridge.
India’s first container transshipment port: PM Modi inaugurated the Vizhinjam International Deepwater Multipurpose Port, built at a cost of ₹8,900 crore. This is the country’s first dedicated container transshipment port, symbolizing the revolutionary progress being made in India’s maritime sector under the integrated vision of a developed India.
First Vande Metro inaugurated in Bihar: The state’s first Vande Metro, also known as Namo Bharat Rapid Rail was launched connecting Jaynagar to Patna, improving regional connectivity. This fully air-conditioned and reservation-free train reaches Patna in just five and a half hours, as against the existing trains which take around eight hours.
Z-Morh Tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir: In 2025, the Prime Minister inaugurated the strategic Z-Morh Tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir, a vital infrastructure project that ensures year-round connectivity to Sonamarg and strengthens access to the Ladakh region. Built to bypass avalanche-prone sections on the Srinagar-Leh Highway, the tunnel significantly improves civilian traffic, tourist flow and emergency access, while also serving as a vital strategic asset for national security and defence logistics.
Navi Mumbai International Airport: India’s aviation capacity received a significant boost with the opening of the first phase of Navi Mumbai International Airport. This achievement has relieved pressure on Mumbai’s existing airport and strengthened India’s position for the next growth in passenger and cargo traffic.
Yellow Line services in Bengaluru: The Prime Minister inaugurated the Yellow Line Metro services at the RV Road (Ragigudda) Metro Station, which connects Bengaluru’s Central District to the tech hub of Electronics City.
