New Delhi: Karnataka is likely to receive another spell of rain over the next three to four days, with the Meteorological Department forecasting heavy
showers in several districts and warning of thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds.
A rain alert has been issued for Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga, Kodagu and Mysuru. Winds of 30-40 kmph are also likely during thunderstorms in parts of the state over the next three to four days.
Coastal Karnataka, Malnad, to see heavy rain
The heaviest rainfall activity is expected in Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Chikkamagaluru and Shivamogga. Kodagu and Mysuru may also receive light to heavy rain at several places.
Dakshina Kannada has already been witnessing widespread showers, with Mangaluru and surrounding areas receiving rain since Monday night. Thunderstorms and lightning were also reported across the district.
Chikkamagaluru has similarly recorded rain through the night, with showers reported in Mudigere, Kottigehara and Charmadi. The rain has brought relief from recent hot weather but could affect road travel in hilly areas if it persists.
Lightning incident reported in Dakshina Kannada
Thunderstorms in Dakshina Kannada also resulted in a lightning-related incident in Anildadda in Ajjibettu village, Bantwal.
Lightning reportedly struck the house of Nagesh Kulal around 4 am, damaging the roof, gutters and window panes. His wife, Kushal, reportedly fell ill following the incident. Further details on injuries were not immediately available.
Bengaluru thunderstorm alert
A separate alert has warned of strong thunderstorm activity in and around Bengaluru from 4 pm on Monday until 4 am on Tuesday.
Residents have been advised to exercise caution during thunderstorms, particularly near trees, electric poles and temporary structures. Commuters should also remain alert as sudden heavy rain could reduce visibility and make roads slippery.
With rain activity expected to continue over the next few days, weather conditions are likely to remain unsettled across Karnataka’s coastal, Malnad and southern regions.
